Fit for the Olympics – This is what you need to bear in mind for your designs

February the 6th will mark the beginning of the Olympic Winter Games, and with it the start of a year packed with major sports events. This should be reason enough to include a few sporty designs in your shop and/or the Spreadshirt Marketplace, we think.

But be careful to only use designs that have no reference to the Olympic Games since a special permission issued by the right holder is required. Here and above you will find a series of logos and designs that are without a doubt trademark material. And of course they can’t be used for any sporty shop purposes.

Any word combination that includes the term “Olympia” (or a similar terms such as “Olympic”, “Paralympic”, “Sochi”, “Russia”, “2014” etc are not possible.
You also need to be careful when using rings or similar designs reminiscent of the Olympic rings.

More information on Olympia as a brand as well as the official partners of the winter games can be found on the official website of the games: www.sochi2014.com

A final tip: You can research registered trademarks at the German Patent and Trade Mark Office (DPMA) and at the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (OAMI). If you use the search term Comité International Olympique, then you should immediately get to the association’s trademark.
