Diversity Is In Our DNA

Diversity Is In Our DNA

Over the past 20 years, a wide variety of ideas and opinions have found a home on our platform. Find out below how we’ve shaped this platform together with you, our community of talented Designers.

We’re living during a moment of progress. People around the world are standing up for what they believe in and making their voices heard — from the streets to social media.

At Spreadshirt, our platform represents a wide range of opinions, beliefs and ideas. While this is an important part of freedom of expression, this diversity of thought can both present us with challenges and create positive change. And that’s a good thing.

Who we are

We live and love diversity! At Spreadshirt, more than 900 employees from over 40 different countries work together to make our open platform the best that it can be. We’re motivated by our Designers and customers who want to express themselves. We think it’s pretty cool that people all over the world make their opinions heard by taking their voices to the streets and into their daily lives with our products.

Some recent examples of this are the Black Lives Matter movement. Within our community, you’ll find designs that advocate for everything from climate change and civil rights to showing solidarity with our fellow humans by wearing masks.

Above all, our platform is geared towards spreading fun, joy and laughter with creative designs.

Why you’re an important part of our community

The designs you create and upload directly influence the Marketplace. We’re proud that we’ve attracted people with different creative visions, cultural backgrounds and opinions. Currently, we have more than 315,000 designers from 200 countries and islands (have you heard of Micronesia?) Collectively, you upload over 100,000 designs per week. Every day, you’re enriching and shaping what the Marketplace looks like.

We want to be an open platform for all Designers. This means, you can upload content as long as it does not discriminate or hurt anyone. Also pornographic and illegal contents do not belong on our platform. We’ve clearly defined our guidelines about what we do and do not tolerate.

Additionally, we’re constantly improving our filters and process to report designs. For example, we’ve just made it easier for all users to report designs.  Now we can better identify content and Designers who abuse our platform and jeopardize this freedom of expression for other Designers. This helps us ensure we keep our Marketplace chock full of positive, kind and empowering messages.

 What you can do

If you’re unsure whether a design you’ve seen or created violates our guidelines, you can always check them with our Community Standards.

Once a design is reported, our team of experts reviews the flagged design. If the design violates our guidelines, we’ll remove it from the platform immediately.

It’s important to remember, not all designs that are allowed to stay on our platform will reflect our or your personal beliefs and opinions. And they don’t have to — as an open platform, freedom of expression is an important part of our identity.

Our CEO, Philip Rooke, has written a statement on this, which you can read here.

As always, if you have any questions let us know in the comments below or in our forum.
