Spreadshirt Donations for Japan

Many of you have asked over the last few days if we were planning to do something for Japan. Some shop partners have even started doing promotions of their own to donate proceeds from sales in their shop.

Often with these large scale natural disasters, it comes down to the fine line between “doing good and talking about it” and “jumping on the bandwagon” – so here’s what we have planned.

We don’t want a donation to be dependent on a purchase, which also means we don’t want to decide for you where “your” money should go. Above all, we want to separate two things:

Showing Solidarity

Many of us want to express their sympathy and do something good. If you would like to donate, there’s a great overview for donating for Japan on Betterplace. They have a line of organisations from which you can choose where your money goes. They also have hundreds of other projects which need support, but have been overshadowed by the catastrophe in Japan.

We are also collecting donations and Spreadshirt as a company is donating €2,000. We would be happy for every extra euro you as employees, customers or partners add on top of that.

Getting Active

The situation at the nuclear power plant has set off a series of debates across the world about their country’s use of nuclear energy. Whether it’s continuing the use of old plants beyond their life expectancy or building new plants, it’s a hot topic.

Governments are re-thinking their policies, people are taking part in demonstrations and of course there are lots of differing opinions. This can also be found on shirts. If you are thinking about hitting the streets to express your opinion, whatever that may be, we have three options for you:

  • Free shipping with the voucher code HELP4JP (valid until 31 March)
  • £20 off orders above £100 with the voucher code HELPJAPAN (valid until 31 March)
  • or you can use our current promotion: SPRING2011 (£10 off purchase of £50, valid until 4 April)

Feel free to promote these in your shop or use them yourself. And if you want, donate (a part or all of) the money you save. Or simply donate. If any shop partners are running something on their own, let us know in a comment below and we’ll list them.

  1. Hey Iris,

The voucher codes are there for people who may have already been planning to buy a product and were also considering donating. We suggest that they donate the money they save on their order to charity.

The idea there is that we are taking a cut on the order and allowing customers to choose where *they* want to donate. The hope is that those who may not normally have donated would be inspired to do so with that money saved. 🙂

  2. Hi Dave,

I might be confused because it’s late at night/early in the morning…
About the voucher codes HELP4JP, HELPJAPAN and SPRING2011 : customers pay less (free shipping, £20 off, £10 off), and that helps Japan ???
