Clear more space in your wardrobe for tote bags! NOW!
It’s something of a “T-Shirt 2.0″:
As a statement against overpriced bags made of crocodile skin, the good old jute bag might nowadays just manage to get a reaction if you have something daring like “Nuclear Power? Yes Please!” printed on it, or perhaps if Lady Gaga were to show up inside one on the red carpet. After oh-so-many nights rocking out in clubs with a bag made of cloth over your shoulder, you might be tempted to finally lay your tote bag to rest.
And to be honest, I think you‘d have a point: I have to disappoint anyone who has just discovered tote bags and thinks they’re going to be the trend to end all trends. The trend is so over.
But let’s not be hasty! Tote bags are anything but dead. Cloth bags are here to stay. And not just because they are so damn versatile and practical.
Tote bags will really stand the test of time because they are affordable and worlds apart from our old chum the plastic bag – they’re the ultimate two-finger salute to our throwaway lifestyles – and after being used a thousand times for whatever purpose, they have that special quality of being able to look completely manky and worn out (but in a good way!).
Tote bags aren’t really about making a political statement anymore, but they’re still here to stay.
It wouldn’t really surprise me if, in the medium term at least, they were to give T-Shirts a run for their money as the ultimate way to say what’s on your mind. The parallels are unmistakable: T-Shirts also started out as a means of provoking others, soon establishing themselves as serious fashion items and an important means of making a statement – and now just look at them!
I’m confident the tote bag is gonna go on from humble beginnings to achieve great things, especially considering what the T-Shirt has done before it. So you’d better start clearing space on those shelves in your wardrobe!

Have a two bags for a long time and used them lots, still looking good!
