Speed up the process from design to finished product! This is now possible with the new “Templates” feature. It allows you to automate steps such as product and color selection, and you can accelerate the positioning and scaling of your design on the product. Continue reading to see how the feature works.
What’s in it for you?
If you offer many products or specialize in certain target groups (e.g. kids), then the template feature can be a real time saver. Recurring work steps are now carried out more quickly: Selecting products and colors, as well as determining the size and position of your design on the product, are easily completed with a single click. A template helps you create a whole kids’ collection with your design, including bodysuits, T-shirts and hoodie. Moreover, certain color combinations can be deactivated – for one or several products. This way, you can prevent dark designs from being ordered on dark product.
How does it work?
This little tutorial demonstrates the feature:
Since the template feature embodies an additional function, your usual workflow won’t change a lot. Templates can be used like this:
- Upload a design or select an existing one.
- Click on the “Select template” button.
- Click on “Apply” to select a template.
In addition to Spreadshirt’s pre-set templates (for particularly dark or light designs), you can create your own templates and save a total of up to 10 templates.
- Upload a design or select an existing one.
- Add your desired product types and edit position and size of your designs.
- Click on “Save as template”.
- Find a suitable name for your template (max. 35 characters). You can now use it for other designs.
Please note:
When you edit a template and save it using “Replace”, designs with this template will remain unaffected by the changes you make. Also, keep an eye out for new products, because these are not automatically added to the templates – even if you have selected all products from the category (e.g. “Kids & Babies”).
Vector Graphics and Special Formats
If you change the color of your vector graphics when editing products, these changes won’t be saved in your templates. These changes need to be made manually in the affected templates.
Designs that are suitable for poster printing are automatically recognized by our system as posters based on their file properties. But since the template function can unfortunately not be applied to poster printing, you won’t be able to create a template based on poster designs. Of course, you can use your design on other products and apply it to templates that you already created.
The template feature is available to all users of the Partner Area.

Is it possible to create a template for use with two designs? I would like to use a template to populate my products but have one design on the back and the other on the front. Please advise.
Hello Spreadshirt,
I am the owner of two partner spreadshops and I am finding bad surprises using the new product/design management system.
For example I have shop 570359. In some products I show a certain design “A” in the front and the logo on the sleeve. I designed these products in the old system 1) choosing product 2) choosing design A for the front and adjusting size 3) choosing logo for the sleeve and adjusting size 4) finish product 5) add description. Example: https://shop.spreadshirt.ie/pureartwear/evolve-A5cff5cafb264a127b0c8a65b?productType=812&sellable=DpL1bG35Q8ijOaDZaarE-812-7&appearance=1
In the new system, when I look into “My designs” section I see “design A” and the logo, but I find something new: the two have been “grouped” into one new design with ID 5cff5cafb264a127b0c8a65b. I have several questions:
How can I group different designs in one?
How can I create a product with one design in the front and a different design in the sleeve (or other part of the garment)?
All the descriptions of my designs have disappeared!!!!???? How can I recover this? This is really not acceptable in my opinion.
Thank you and regards
You can easily upload several designs and display them on the sleeve and on the front for example. Just follow this tutorial: https://www.spreadshirt.co.uk/blog/2019/03/05/print-your-designs-on-more-print-areas/
You can also easily add descriptions to your designs by clicking on the edit button when you hover over your design and then on “Edit” right next to your design NAME on the top.
Let me know if you have any other questions 🙂
