Interview with Jeremy from Caravan Gifts

Jeremy from Caravan Gifts has a number of shops running on Spreadshirt’s platform. We couldn’t let such an experienced partner’s knowledge just sit there in his head, so we thought we would ask him a couple of questions about his shop. Read on to find out how he got started, what tips he would give new shop partners and more!

What inspired or motivated you to open a shop and how long have you run the shop?

I’ve been caravanning for the last 20 years but never saw anyone wearing a humorous camping t-shirt and thought there might be a niche in the market. I started an online shop with another company but was not impressed with the user interface and started to look for another company, finding Spreadshirt early in 2007. I soon had the Caravan Gifts website up and running, and the orders started to slowly roll in.

How did you learn about Spreadshirt?

I was running a website called Biker-Gifts and decided to purchase my own webspace to host the site and also become a reseller of webspace. This coincided with the hosting company offering a 6 months free full membership promotion with Spreadshirt and a partnership was born.

How much time do you invest in your shop? Do you create the designs yourself? Read more

Spreadshirt API Contest: Start Your Engines – We’re Lifting off Soon

Last October we introduced you to the new Spreadshirt API. Now that we have a couple of demo-apps, ran some tests and got feedback from a number of partners, we want to take the API to another level. Namely, a Spreadshirt API Contest where we will be looking for and premiering the best Spreadshirt API applications.

The contest is very open – that means, you decide what kind of application you write and what it would be used for. A good start would be to put some thought into the API and get to know its powers, or tell your computer savvy friends about this opportunity. You can find documentation in the Developer WIki and the API forum is starting to take off (thanks to Patrick). Oh, and one more thing: if you have any suggestions for prizes, let us know!

Like other API contests, we want to give the winner more than just fame and hard-earned cash. We want to add something special on top. Perhaps something along the lines of a battle ax (like wufoo) or a 3D printer (like bit.ly)? What do you think?

March Clearance Sale – Custom Fashion at Great Prices

New month – new prices. But this time our message is about decreased prices! You can now find some great new products and have your shirts printed at a low price. We have to get rid of some items because the vendor has discontinued them or we have decided to change our strategy for that product type.

One example of this is for the organic products that are also displayed on our clearance sale page. We are discontinuing them because we found it more strategic to offer just one collection by one brand. So we decided to continue the Earth Positive line from Continental Clothing and add more items to the line in the next couple of weeks (get excited about these, they are hot!!). In addition to the organics and the products we are deactivating, we have a lot of more items on discount: Read more

How to Create Funky Fresh Designs with a Message

The following is a guest post by Romibello – the first in a series of guest posts by our partners.

Spreadshirt asked me to write a little something about “vector designs with style”. And because I think we should counter the flood of hearts, crowns and smiles on the Marketplace, I was happy to do so.

The important thing with a new design is the idea behind it.

Shirts without a message don’t really rock. Since Spreadshirt primarily provides designs that customers can use to create their own message, you should try and serve both sides. The customer that’s only looking for a great design and the “I’m-making-my-own-shirt-customer”. I’ll cover that latter one later on.

Back to the idea. Where to take and not steal? Open your eyes and get some inspiration!
Have you seen a great film recently or come across something really funny? Maybe you have a song stuck in your head and want to illustrate it? Or, maybe you’ve heard a cool saying and want to put that into a design? Whatever it is, that’s a great starting point and best would be a mix of them all: create something that’s never been done before. It’s not easy – but it’s also not impossible.

Of course, I’ve got something prepared for you:

I’ve had a song stuck in my head the past couple of days. You probably know the song and I’m actually afraid of saying the name, because I know I will get the song stuck in my head again for another few days! But, there’s not really much I can do: Read more
