Fashion Collection for 2012 – What do you want?

As most of you know, we also carry some higher-priced brand-name products in our product range. We call them our Fashion Brands. Some of them are very well-known due to their brand name and some of them are very fashionable because of their special cuts and styles.

We’ve tried our a couple of different brands and looked to see how you liked them. But now, since we are planing 2012, we’d like to know what you think about the whole collection. To see how you felt about the past collections and what you’d like in the future, I prepared a couple of questions for you to answer. With your help and support it will be much easier for us to focus on the right items for next year. I am looking forward to your feedback! Enjoy and have fun!

New T-Shirt Designer Now Available for Shop Partners – Step 1

It’s about time that Spreadshirt Shop Partners got their hands on the newly developed T-Shirt Designer! The first step has been taken and Premium Partners can now use the new Designer. The current version has some limitations and a bug can pop up here and there – but, it’s a beta version, so we ask you to be a little patient.

New Designer? Why?

We’ve learned a lot from our development and testing of the new T-Shirt Designer on our own platform. It converts better, is more stable, is faster and has a more modern look to it. These improvements certainly made sense.

We want to give you a chance to test it out, and to avoid taking any risks with your current Designer Shops, we’ve increased the Designer Shop limit to 5 shops (a permanent increase!). To use the new Designer, select it from the Shop Settings page in your account.

Changes and Limitations

The first version has a few limitations to it. For now, there will only be one colour scheme that can’t be edited and doesn’t have widgets. This will change in the next phase that we are planning to release soon!

There is another important change for the management of designs. The category “My Designs” is no longer present. That means that the new designs won’t show all of the designs in a shop when it loads. Instead the first category is loaded and shown. Designs that are not put into a category therefor cannot be found.

Deep Links:
The current deep-link structure will continue to work with the new designer.

The Next Steps:
1. Ability to edit the colour scheme and layout for the new Designer
2. Widgets and Features
3. A 650 pixel Designer will soon follow, a 800 pixel variant is also planned

Mark Your Words & Watch out for Word Marks

Christmas is knocking on the chimney and we expect (hope for!) an onslaught of designs. To ensure that your creativity can stand on solid legal feet, we wanted to explain a few things.

When using “word marks” you should generally make sure that:
– they are not standing alone
– they are not in the foreground of the design

Let’s assume that the word “Snow” is a word mark (don’t worry, it’s not one … yet). If the design consists of an image and word mark, then this should be integrated into the image design. In other words, the version on the left is the way to go to get around this imaginary word mark.

The version on the right is not the way to do it and this design would be rejected by our Legal Service team for infringement on the word mark. This is because it doesn’t follow the two points above: the word is standing alone and can be seen in the foreground of the design.

In order to research word marks and other protected material, use the following links:

We’ve already done some (legally non-binding, of course) research on Christmas word marks and surprisingly (and happily) didn’t find too many. Your creativity has almost no bounds, at least with the main keywords like Christmas, Merry Christmas and and and.

Feel free to contact us if you have any general or detailed legal questions!

Autumn Trend 2011: Woolen-Warm, Scottish and Hippie

In just a few weeks autumn will officially begin and I would like to take the chance and leave some ideas in terms of colours and fashion trends for the upcoming season. Long story short: focus on red, brown and petrol colours as well as Scottish plaid patterns, hippie styles and longer-length skirts. All in all, the outfits should look woolen warm. Read more

Shop Partner Interview with YouTube’s Dyton Brothers

The Dyton Brothers are a vlogging sibling foursome making videos for your entertainment! Just a few months into their YouTube channel, they’ve also set up a t-shirt shop on Spreadshirt claiming that buying a t-shirt will save a unicorn. We can’t confirm the truth behind this claim, but we did have a few questions about their videos, their mum and the Dyton Brothers Spreadshirt shop.

When did you start making videos and what brought you guys  to it?

Well, I actually started making videos, even before Nathan was born. I’d grab my mum’s camera and shoot a bunch of pointless videos with friends.

We even used to make stupid music videos. But in 2006, I joined YouTube and started vlogging. And later on, started making random sketches with Josh (the 19 year old brother).

Eventually we involved Zack and Nathan in our videos. So with what I learned, and what I believed people wanted to see, I decided to create a new YouTube account called ‘DytonBrothers‘.

How is it at home? I mean so many guys at once.. who helps mum the most?

To be honest, it’s pretty awesome here. We all get along 90% of the time, although Zack and Nathan fight the most. But we make each other laugh at least 100 times a day, and I’m not exaggerating at all.

Mum doesn’t have to do much at all, we all usually sort things out ourselves. I think the only thing she does is the washing and cleaning and on the odd occasion she’ll cook.
